![]() ![]() ![]() Things do change for her when she comes across Travis and Einstein in a park after a terrible encounter with a man who is hell-bent on stalking Nora.Īnd then Koontz introduces a crazed killer (Vince) who has ties to Einstein in some way we don’t know and then a mysterious agency man who is tracking to track down Einstein as well. Now that she’s gone Nora feels adrift, but wants to change her life. Nora’s aunt was not loving and constantly told Nora how she was not pretty enough, a mouse (not a cat) and how she would be better off staying away from men. We then transition over to Nora Devon who is living alone in her dead aunt’s home. Over time Travis starts to realize that the dog he nicknames fur face and then calls “Einstein” is quite special. The animal will not allow Travis to cross down a path in the woods and feeling something ominous, Travis ends up taking the dog home with him. “Watchers” starts off with Travis Cornell out in the mountains when he comes across a golden retriever. This book hits all the feels and I can see now why after the success of this book Koontz had to just have a dog in every book he put out. I loved the characters (Travis and Nora) I fell in love with Einstein and also with everyone along the way who wanted to keep Einstein free. ![]() Though I could have done without the whole ssnap guy (Vince) the rest of the book just works perfectly. The last one that made me cry was “Odd Thomas.” This book hits me everywhere. Well damn, a Dean Koontz book made me cry. ![]() ![]() Kenna travels back to the town she came from to find Diem and beg Scotty’s parents for forgiveness. I wasn’t disappointed either, because everyone can use a little (non-cheesy) romance in their life. I assumed it would be a mystery or thriller based on the cover, but it turned out to be more of a complicated and serious romance novel, which explains why her books are so popular – women are by far the bigger buyers in the book market, which is why Harlequin is so lucrative. Occasionally I’ll glance at their bestseller lists just so I can get a sense of what most folks are reading, and like many Canadians and Americans, I tend to see Colleen Hoover‘s name pop up quite a bit on these lists – the one I’m currently looking at has four out of ten books by her! It’s for this reason, and this reason only that I requested Reminders of Him, because like my recent jump into reading Jennifer Weiner, I wanted to see why this author continues to sell so many books. ![]() ![]() I pay for an online subscription to Canada’s major newspaper, The Globe and Mail, mainly to access their book review section. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() "At the end of the day, I have no idea, and that pure, serene, ignorance has become, itself, a funny kind of solace," she writes in a letter to her deceased husband. While the film isn't as explicit as the book, both versions of Eva are grappling with Kevin's final answer as they wonder if it's even worth feeling weighed down by the question of responsibility. She lives with the guilt of what her son did, on top of the guilt of knowing she did nothing about the various warning signs. Unreliable narrator Eva Khatchadourian reminds readers that she is writing about her past. Not that she has a ton of options - she struggles to find work and be accepted by those around her. Lionel Shriver’s fictional novel, We Need To Talk About Kevin, is a novel told in a series of letters from mother/wife to her estranged husband, in relation to the upbringing of her son leading up to the eventual massacre that he commits at his school. Her public perception is unlikely to change, but Eva appears firm in her choice to stick around for Kevin's sake. ![]() ![]() Is she channeling the brief moment of affection between the two when he was young and sick, or is she working toward being a better mother upon his release? Maybe the cover was too cheesy, I'm not sure, but I didn't have extra high hopes for this movie. The prose of The Forgotten Beasts of Eld echoes the mythopoeic style of A Wizard of Earthsea, and McKillip’s novel seems to have been inspired by Le Guin’s masterpiece in more ways than one.
